The Pan Pacific and South East Asia Women’s Association of Thailand (PPSEAWAT) in collaboration with Jirasat Wittaya School, officially launched the “Peace Begins at School” project. The opening ceremony was held at the school’s conference hall and was graciously hosted by Dr. Suttatip Chairattana, Director of Jirasat Wittaya School, together with the school’s executive team. The event was honored by the presence of Mrs. Chavali Pamela Osathanugrah, President of PPSEAWA Thailand, and attended by Grade 5 students participating in the program.

In her remarks, Mrs. Chavali emphasized that the “Peace Begins at School” initiative seeks to foster peace, empathy, and a respectful learning environment. A key objective of the program is to raise awareness and address the growing issue of bullying, which continues to be a significant concern in educational settings. According to a global survey conducted in 2020, Thailand ranked second worldwide—after Japan—in the prevalence of school bullying. The study revealed that 91% of Thai students aged 10–15 had experienced bullying, and 43% had considered retaliation, indicating serious risks of long-term psychological effects. The highest proportion of bullying victims were primary school students (29%), followed by secondary school students (28%), university students (19%), kindergarteners (13%), and working adults (11%). Alarmingly, 70% of bullying incidents were perpetrated by peers from the same or different year levels. Through this initiative, PPSEAWA Thailand and Jirasat Wittaya School aim to instill values of kindness, mutual respect, and peaceful conflict resolution among students—ultimately contributing to a safer, more inclusive, and harmonious school community

นางชวาลี โอสถานุเคราะห์ นายกสมาคมสตรีภาคพื้นแปซิฟิกและเอเชียอาคเนย์ฯ กล่าวว่า โครงการ "Peace begins at school" หรือ "สันติภาพเริ่มต้นที่โรงเรียน" โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อมุ่งเน้นการสร้างสันติภาพให้เกิดขึ้นในโรงเรียน ซึ่งขณะนี้จะค่อนข้างเป็นปัญหาโดยเฉพาะการบูลลี่ (Bully) กำลังเป็นประเด็นสำคัญที่สังคมไม่ควรมองข้าม โดยสถานการณ์พฤติกรรม การกลั่นแกล้งรังแกกันหรือบูลลี่ของเด็กไทยในปี 2563 ติดอันดับ 2 ของโลก รองจากประเทศญี่ปุ่นและจากการสำรวจพบว่าเด็กไทยอายุ 10-15 ปี 91% เคยถูกบูลลี่ และ 43% คิดจะตอบโต้เอาคืน เสี่ยงที่จะนำไปสู่ผลกระทบที่รุนแรงขึ้นซึ่งกลุ่มคนที่ถูกกลั่นแกล้งล้อเลียนมากที่สุดอยู่ในช่วงวัยประถมศึกษา 29% รองลงมาคือ มัธยมศึกษา 28% มหาวิทยาลัย 19% อนุบาล 13% รวมถึงวัยทำงาน 11% กลุ่มคนที่เป็นผู้กลั่นแกล้ง ส่วนใหญ่ถึง 70% เป็นเพื่อนร่วมโรงเรียนทั้งรุ่นเดียวกันและต่างรุ่น ซึ่งการจัดโครงการในครั้งนี้ หวังอย่างยิ่งว่านักเรียนทุกคน จะได้รับประโยชน์จากการเข้าร่วมโครงการและลดพฤติกรรมการบูลลี่ในโรงเรียน และสร้างความสันติและสงบสุขให้เกิดขึ้นในโรงเรียนด้วย
